KCPE 2022 best student Robinson Fwaro Makokha has joined Alliance High School in Kikuyu, Kiambu county, courtesy of a sponsorship by Kenyan online coding school Kodris Africa.
Makokha, formerly of Christ the King Academy in Bungoma, jointly topped the country’s primary school level examinations by scoring 431 marks. The other top KCPE candidate was Otieno Lewis Omondi Glen of St Peter’s Primary School in Mumias.
In interviews after the release of the KCPE results, Makokha was quoted expressing his desire to join Alliance High School and proceed to pursue software engineering at the university, a rarity given that in years gone by, top performers in the national examinations have expressed preferrence to study medicine, law and other engineering courses.
This attracted the attention of edutech firm Kodris Africa which offered to sponsor the young man through his four years of high school education.
“We saw on the news that Fwaro would like to become a software engineer. The skill that takes him there is coding, and we want to set him on a firm footing towards achieving his dreams. Coding is one of the most sought-after skills in the world today, and Fwaro is setting the pace,” Kodris Africa CEO Mugumo Munene is quoted saying by a local daily.
We are excited about Robinson’s passion in Software Engineering. We shall walk this journey with him until he achieves his dream.#education #coding #SoftwareEngineer #Kodris pic.twitter.com/VTq06AowkR

On top of fully sponsoring his high school education by way of paying for his school fees, Kodris Africa has offered Master Makokha a laptop, and access to its coding resources among other things that will enable the 14-year-old to realize his dream of becoming a software engineer.
Kodris Africa offers children and teenagers aged between 7 and 16 years of age learning resources that enable them to code at an early age.
In mid-2022, the firm launched the country’s first coding syllabus to be used for teaching kids from Grade 1 through to Grade 12. Kodris Africa’s curriculum is approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
Kodris Africa has partnered with Safaricom to allow parents to buy tokens for use on its online learning platform through the Kodris app that is available on the M-Pesa super app. It has also partnered with KCB Bank to allow the bank’s customers to purchase access to its online learning resources at a discounted rate.
