Tecno Phantom X2 set for Kenya launch

Chinese smartphone brand Tecno is set to unveil the latest device from its Phantom smartphone sub-brand, the Phantom X2, in Kenya.

The Kenya launch will take place on Tuesday, 17th January in Nairobi as per an invite seen by Mobile Kenya.

The launch will be graced by Tecno’s newly-unveiled ambassador, legendary marathoner Eliud Kipchoge.

Announced in December last year, the Tecno Phantom X2 packs a 6.8-inch AMOLED HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate that is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 5G chipset, 8GB RAM (virtually expandable – by 5GB more), 256GB internal storage and a 5,160mAh battery.

It has a tri-lens setup at the back featuring a hero 64-megapixel wide sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 13-megapixel ultrawide and a 2-megapixel sensor. On the front is a 32-megapixel “Clear Selfie” sensor.

Obviously, it has a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. Talking about charging, the device supports 45W fast charging which, according to Tecno, takes the device from nought to full in just an hour.

NFC is also available as a connectivity option.

However, the device lacks memory expansion via a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The device runs on HiOS 12, Tecno’s custom take on Android 12. The Phantom X2 series is earmarked for upgrades for at least two major Android generations – until Android 14.

The device has a Pro variant (pictured above). The Pro variant’s dual 50-megapixel sensors, one a wide and another a telephoto lens, are the stars of the entire Phantom X2 series thanks to their retractable profile, a world first for the retractable one.

We are getting both devices in the country and you can already pre-order them now!
