DaVinci Resolve, an all-in-one multi-platform video editing, colour grading, colour correction, visual effects, and audio post-production app, is finally available on the Apple iPad.
The app joins LumaFusion, the go-to household app on the iPad for video editing, in offering users those capabilities. Unlike LumaFusion, which is a paid app, DaVinci Resolve is free to download for all on the Apple App Store. For those who need the use of Resolve OFX and other advanced features, an upgrade to DaVinci Resolve Studio is available through an in-app purchase of USD 95.
Existing DaVinci Resolve Studio licenses cannot be used to unlock Studio Features on the iPad, says the app’s maker, Blackmagic Design.
While the application has been tailored for the iPad’s touch-first interface, it still has most of the features that users have loved it for on the desktop for years – the app has been available on Linux, macOS and Windows with iPadOS being the latest to join the fray.
Users can expect to have access to Cut Page, Source Tape, Fast Review, Sync Bin and other features that they are used to.
DaVinci Resolve on the iPad supports H.264, H.265, Apple ProRes and Blackmagic RAW file formats.
Like with LumaFusion, users can import their files from the cloud (iCloud), the iPad’s local storage and external disks (external USB-C drives). Users can also collaborate via the Blackmagic cloud.
It has been optimized to work with existing iPad accessories from Apple like the Apple Pencil, the Magic Trackpad, the Magic Keyboard and the Smart Keyboard Folio.
While the release is for iPads, not all iPads are made equal. DaVinci Resolve on the iPad requires iPads with at least the A12 Bionic chipset or later versions, preferably, the Apple Silicon (M1 and M2) that powers the latest iPad Pro models.
Additionally, an iPad needs to be running iPadOS version 16.0 or a later version.
