Tecno Phantom X2 series set to be updated to at least Android 14

Chinese smartphone brand Tecno is set to launch its latest smartphone series, the Phantom X2, in several markets soon.

The device series, launched just days ago, is expected to hit the brand’s core markets in the early days of the new year.

According to reports, Kenya is set to join India, Nigeria, Turkey, the Phillippines, Colombia and Saudi Arabia as the launch markets of the Tecno Phantom X2 and the Phantom X2 Pro (pictured), devices from Tecno’s premium-market-focused sub-brand Phantom. After this, the devices are likely to hit other markets where the Transsion Holdings brand has a presence, including newer markets in Europe where it is targeting to fill in the vacuum left by the likes of Huawei and its Honor sub-brand.

Pending the devices’ availability, attention has shifted to the kind of support that Tecno plans to extend to its premium device lineup. GSMArena reports that upgrades to Android 13 and Android 14 are assured with Android 15 upgrades being a wait-and-see affair for the Chinese who are yet to commit to providing them.

The Tecno Phantom X2 series arrives running the already-dated Android 12.
